Anthony Quinn plays a tough mobster named 'Phil Regal'. His family really doesn't know exactly what he does. All his mother and sister know is that he's the man of the family and his job is to take care of them and be their protector. When his sister (Anne Bancroft) becomes pregnant, Quinn insists on fixing things--which is difficult, as the father is a young criminal on death row (Farley Granger). Using lots of money and influence, Quinn manages to get Farley out of jail, only to create a lot of trouble for himself and his family
