The Smiling Ghost is a 1941 citizen detective mystery film starring Wayne Morris, Brenda Marshall and Alexis Smith. It also features Alan Hale, Lee Patrick, Charles Halton, Helen Westley and Willie Best.
Synopsis: When unemployed engineer Alexander "Lucky" Downing places an ad in a local newspaper for work doing "anything legal," he is quickly contacted by the grandmother of a wealthy socialite who is willing to pay him a thousand dollars plus expenses to feign engagement to her granddaughter for one month. Unbeknownst to Lucky, however, her reason for doing so is the hope that, after a month's long engagement, her granddaughter's reputation—which has suffered due to the fact that her last three fiancees have all met with strange and tragic fates, allegedly at the hands of an invisible nemesis known as the "Smiling Ghost"—will then be restored. Although fearful that he may indeed meet a fate similar to that experienced by the debutante's other recent fiancees, Lucky eventually decides to stick it out in an attempt to unravel the mystery of the "murdering ghost."

Most titles previously had a pressed release but have lapsed out of print and are now only available on these re-released MOD discs.
