Description

Desperate to leave behind the poverty of her home life, pretty Jessie Cassidy (Joan Crawford) pushes her boyfriend, Eddie (Alan Curtis), to marry her. Eddie then convinces Jessie to work as a showgirl to support them until he can find work. Oblivious to Eddie's shiftless nature, Jessie complies. Months later, at a party thrown for the show by shipping tycoon John Hennessy (Spencer Tracy), the still-unemployed Eddie notes John's attraction to Jessie and makes a shocking proposal to his wife
